Education for Deprived Children of Afghanistan

The Afghanistan government has achieved many successes, particularly in the education of K-12 students. The Afghan government, with help from the international community, has reached 50% of the mandate of education by building and operating schools. Most of these
achievements are to support middle-high income populations of Afghanistan children. According to the UN statistics, one third of Afghan children are deprived of going to school because of child labor and/or living on the streets. These children are under the radar of the government of Afghanistan or any international organizing working hard in Afghanistan to achieve success and complete other education projects in Afghanistan.

With the use of new technology, PAC, in partnership with other organizations, will be able to provide state-of-the-art, cost-effective education for those children who are deprived and have no hope of education towards becoming an equal member of society. Implementation of this project, as with all others of PAC is projects will be without age, gender tribal, racial, religious, linguistic discrimination. The cost of this project per unit that can house 60 students and can educate about 500 students per day, is 11cent/student/day or $55/student/year.

The main target group for this project is deprived children of Afghanistan. This group in very large in Afghanistan and can be divided in to the following subgroups:

• Internally displaced children (internal refugees)
• Street children
• Children in labor
• Children below the poverty line

Every one of these subgroups has its own characteristics and requires spatial condition for recruitment of students and implementation of the project. In this project we focus on Internally displaced children due to the following factors:

• They are the most dispirit group that are under the radar by the government and other
  agencies
• They usually have a good family values in relation to the education of their children
• Most of these children have been attending the schools in their own town
• A need assessment is completed with some groups of internally displaced families
• They are interested and keen to attend the school
• The parents and elderly leaders are in full support of the project
• They are committed to send their children to the school
• They are committed to protect the school and provide security

The main objective of this project is to provide the environment and the opportunity for deprived children of Afghanistan to reach the same level of education as other children of Afghanistan.

The specific aim of this pilot project is two fold:

1. to implement the technology and the concept for a target subgroup of deprived children (internally displaced children)
2. to prove the efficacy, cost effectiveness, and short-term impact of this program on the education of children and socioeconomical relationship of internally displaced communities in and around the Kabul city.

After the completion of this pilot project we will be able to expand the concept to the rest of the country and to reach other subgroups of internally displaced children.

In this new initiative, we anticipate that, use a disruptive technology with innovative pedagogical ideas will provide a suitable environment for education and socio-economic growth of deprived children such as internally displaced children, street children, children in the labor
force as well as all other children below the poverty line.
